Sweet Peppermint Wind

Madeline Fendrick - mandolin, vocals

Brian Peck - guitar, vocals

Where on occasion a jet stream would shoot across the sky

There are now ten interfering with the song birds mating cry

And where for miles a couple road and a few cars passing by

There now are freeways I wish I could avoid and not abide

And where my eyes used to rest on the tree line and retire

I now see poles and billboards and miles of telephone wire

Oh, whenever I catch a whiff of that sweet peppermint wind

I think of white chalk, childhood days, and old friends

We drew white arrows to the place where the sidewalk used to end

Before we knew the sidewalk would stretch over, and over again

I can't get over what a phone can do with just a touch

And soon an eyeglass with just a wink will do as much

We live much longer, more days I guess to pass the test

Yet here we are healthier, more reserved, and more depressed

My old friends, I don't know, maybe Facebook knows how they look

But I've got my pot of peppermint and old Silverstein books

Oh, whenever I catch a whiff of that sweet peppermint wind

I think of white chalk, childhood days, and old friends

We drew white arrows to the place where the sidewalk used to end

Before we knew the sidewalk would stretch over, and over again
